Looking down Market Street
“so not long before Market Street was pedestrianised”
This week is the view looking down Market Street - one of the principle retail streets in the city centre - with the Arndale Centre on the right.
The top photo was very kindly provided to me by Warren Marshall when Euan was writing his Rebuilding Manchester book and, he would guess, dates back to the late 1970s/ early 1980s, so not long before Market Street was pedestrianised in 1981.
Interesting to note the change in the retail offer as well with some former well known names visible on the right, such as BHS, Littlewoods, and C&A 🛒
