New Quay Street and Irwell Bridge
“The building opened in 1956 and was the first purpose-built commercial TV studio in the UK.”
The view this week is from New Quay Street and Irwell Bridge (literally half way over so not sure if technically in Manchester or Salford !)
The top photo was kindly provided by Chris Burnett of Chris Burnett Associates and was taken in 2003. It shows the view towards the Granada TV building (worth also noting the banner on the side of the building which shows Manchester supporting Liverpool’s 2008 Capital of Culture bid).
The building opened in 1956 and was the first purpose-built commercial TV studio in the UK. It was subsequently vacated in 2013 when most of the production had moved to MediaCityUK in Salford.
The bottom photo is from last week and shows some of the major transformation that has taken place over the past two decades.
