The former Victoria Bridge Bus Station, now Greengate Square

“In early 2013 the space re-opened as Greengate Square”

The photos are from March 2009 and 2025 and look, in the foreground, towards the former Victoria Bridge Bus Station which, following the closure of the bus station in the 1970s, was used for many years as a car park. In early 2013 the space re-opened as Greengate Square. To the east is 100 and 101 Embankment built on the site of Manchester’s historic Exchange Station and to the west is CitySuites and CitySuites Two.

Beyond Greengate Square is Greengate itself - the original historic core of Salford and for the past decade or so the focus of incredible development activity and growth, including One Greengate, Anaconda Cut, and Colliers Yard.

If you look carefully at both photos you can also see the Abito apartments - completed in 2006 by Ask Developments who accurately describe the development on their website as the first piece of the Greengate jigsaw 🧩
