Along Chester Road looking towards the city centre
“shows the significant changes over the past seven years or so”
This view is along Chester Road looking towards the city centre.
The top photo is from 2010. At that time, it felt as though the market would never recover, and many prime sites in the city centre were used as car parks (the Owen Street car park in this picture was a personal favourite of Euan’s). The building on the right is the Grade II listed Bridgewater House/Bridgewater Canal Offices.
The bottom photo is more recent and shows the significant changes over the past seven years or so. The four towers - designed by SimpsonHaugh - ranging from 40 to 67 storeys, form Deansgate Square by RENAKER, with 1,508 apartments. On the left, on the former Quay Bar site, is Castle Wharf, also by Renaker and designed by OMI Architects which includes 188 apartments over 12 to 21 storeys.
In the background on the left, you can see the hoardings around the Fusion scheme, which will provide 509 student beds in a 28 storey building designed by Corstorphine & Wright and being delivered by Domis Construction.
It is unreal to see how much the area has changed in such a short time, with more to follow.
