From the corner of Miller Street and Rochdale Road
“guided by Manchester City Council’s New Cross Development Framework”
This photo was taken from the corner of Miller Street and Rochdale Road. The top image, kindly provided by Aidan O'Rourke, dates from 2005 and looks toward the then-emerging Skyline Central, designed by Jacobs Webber for West Properties.
The bottom image, taken towards the end of 2025, highlights the scale of change that has taken place over the past two decades. Much of this growth has been guided by Manchester City Council’s New Cross Development Framework, first adopted in 2015, which set the direction for redevelopment across this part of the city.
Skyline Central, completed in 2007, contains 249 apartments and has since been joined by several major schemes. On the right stands Swan Street House, designed by SimpsonHaugh for Ridgeback: a single development comprising two towers of 32 and 14 storeys connected by a 6-storey podium, providing 373 apartments.
Just out of shot on the left is Angel Gardens, the 35-storey Ryder Architecture–designed tower delivered by Moda, bringing 466 apartments and 20,000 sq ft of commercial space to the NOMA neighbourhood.
Further up Rochdale Road, also on the left, is the 229-bed Premier Inn, designed by Jon Matthews Architects and now under construction by GMI Construction Group PLC
Nearby, the 221-bed Hampton Inn by Hilton, designed by Tim Groom Architects, is already a prominent fixture. In the background, the emerging Downtown Victoria North development — also by Jon Matthews Architects for McGoff Construction Limited —adds two further blocks of 13 and 11 storeys, accommodating 237 apartments.
