First Flashback Friday of 2026 - Happy New Year!
This view is from Trinity Way (AO Arena car park on the left) looking west towards Dutton Street and the former Boddington's Brewery site.
The top photo was taken in 2009 when the majority of the area was dominated by car parks and low rise workshop units. Prior to this the Brewery had closed in 2005 and subsequently been demolished in 2007 (the former Brewery chimney is visible in the top picture on the left).
The bottom photo, taken during December 2025, captures the significant transformation currently underway in this part of the city centre. At the heart of this change is Salboy’s Waterhouse Gardens scheme, designed by Studio Power and delivered by Domis Construction. The development comprises 556 new homes and 31,000 sq ft of commercial and retail space across five buildings.
This is a key site within Manchester City Council’s adopted Great Ducie Street Regeneration Framework, alongside the Strangeways and Cambridge SRF. Further development is already progressing - note the crane in the background, where GRAHAM Group is delivering Clarion Housing Group’s Brewery Gardens scheme. This project will bring 505 new homes, 60% of which will be affordable housing.
