Looking down Deansgate with the railway arches of the Great Northern Warehouse on the left
“The Beetham Tower (in a weird way it doesn’t feel that long ago - equally it also feels as though the building has been there forever!)”
This week’s photo looks down Deansgate with the railway arches of the Great Northern Warehouse on the left.
The top photo was taken in December 2005 by Aidan O'Rourke during the construction of Beetham Tower (in a weird way it doesn’t feel that long ago - equally it also feels as though the building has been there forever!)
Also note the Film Bank ‘24 self video’ shop on the right hand side - from memory this was DVD collect / drop off point…also feels like an age ago!
The bottom photo is from early October 2025 and captures some of the major change in this part of the city over the past 20 years (all designed by SimpsonHaugh:
Viadux by Salboy;
The completed Beetham Tower including The Manchester Deansgate Hotel, by IHG;
The under construction Dean Street Developments 325 Deansgate Apart Hotel; and,
West Tower, Deansgate Square (part of New Jackson neighbourhood) by RENAKER.
