View from the eighth floor of Manchester Tower looking south-west

“…captures some of the major change that has taken place over the past decade or so:”

Firstly, huge credit and thanks this week to Gareth Davis for very kindly sharing the top photo - which we think is from 1997 - along with the bottom photo which he took earlier June2026 (thanks also to Gillian Hanley of Bruntwood for making it happen!)

The view is from the eighth floor of Manchester Tower (formerly Portland Tower) looking south-west.

The view captures some of the major change that has taken place over the past decade or so:

From left to right:

Landmark, located at 1 Oxford Street on the site of the former Odean cinema. Comprising 180,000 sqft of commercial floorspace and designed by Squire & Partners on behalf of Barings.

The 40 storey Viadux by Salboy, designed by SimpsonHaugh.

The 48 storey Beetham Tower, including The Manchester Deansgate Hotel, by IHG, also designed by SimpsonHaugh.

One St Peter’s Square. Comprising 271,000 sqft of floorspace the building was designed by Howells on behalf of Argent LLP and Greater Manchester Pension Fund.

The Wilde Aparthotel, located on the site of the former Peterloo House. The building was designed by Stephenson Studio with Leach Rhodes Walker Architects as delivery architect, on behalf of Property Alliance.

Two St Peter’s Square. Comprising 162,000 sqft of floorspace the building was designed by SimpsonHaugh on behalf of Mosley Street Ventures.

Finally, the under construction W Hotels and W Residences at St Michael’s - being delivered by Domis Construction on behalf of Relentless Group and Salboy.
