Approval granted for new Yeshiva, Boys School and Synagogue in Salford

EKPS has successfully secured planning permission on behalf of OYY Lubavitch Manchester for a new Yeshiva, Boys School and Synagogue in Salford.

The site involves the former OYY Lubavitch Girls School, which is located on a 0.4 hectare site at the junction of Park Lane and Upper Park Road in Salford. The site, at the time of writing, is currently vacant, following the departure of the girls school to a new site at 460 Bury New Road in November 2016 (a consent also secured by EKPS).

Planning permission was originally granted for the redevelopment of the site in March 2015 and involved the demolition of the existing buildings and the erection of a new building, comprising boys school, synagogue and yeshiva, together with an ancillary play area, 23 no. car parking spaces, hard and soft landscaping and other associated works.  The proposed building was part one and a half, part three-storeys in height, and displayed a juxtaposition of traditional and contemporary architectural styles. In November 2016 a Non-Material Amendment to the planning permission was granted which allowed the addition of a basement to the approved drawings, to provide additional, ancillary storage facilities.

This ‘new’ application again sought consent to demolish the existing buildings within the site and replace them with a new school, synagogue and Yeshiva (a Jewish higher education establishment which focuses on the study of traditional religious texts).  It also sought consent for a series of dormitories within an additional floor to enable up to 60 of the Yeshiva students to board at the site.

The application was approved unanimously by Salford City Council Planning Committee.
