Manchester Viaduct
“…a part of the city that has seen major change over the past 20 years or so”
The view from Manchester Viaduct looking towards a part of the city that has seen major change over the past 20 years or so.
The photo on the left was kindly provided by Chris Burnett of Chris Burnett Associates. It was taken in 2003 and shows the view looking east towards the Great Northern Warehouse cinema; G-Mex (now Manchester Central); and, at the time, the under construction Hacienda apartments on Whitworth Street West.
The photo on the right is from 2024 and shows the 47-storey Beetham Tower which was completed in 2006 (including 219 apartments and the 285 bed Hilton Manchester Deansgate); Salboy’s Viadux scheme (375 apartments), completed in 2024; and, Dean Street Developments’ under construction 325 Deansgate comprising a 357 bed apart-hotel – all designed by SimpsonHaugh.
Also visible on the right is RENAKER’s One Cambridge Street (282 apartments) designed by Hodder + Partners and completed in 2017, along with Unite Students’ Bridgewater Heights, also designed by Hodder + Partners comprising 525 student beds and completed in 2012.
