This post involves a location which was tricky to match up due to the sheer scale of change - however, we think we’ve done a good job (look out for the Corn Exchange turrets on the far right hand side).

The top photo is from 1998 and looks towards Cannon House which was part of the old Shambles Square Market Place, which was constructed during the early 1970s (devastated I never got round to going into Hazel’s amusements!)

The bottom photo is more circa 2023/24 and looks along New Cathedral Street - which opened in 1999 - towards a development that what was originally branded as Shambles West: a mixed use scheme comprising a new destination store, new retail units, and a new residential building (No 1 Deansgate).

By the time the development was complete in August 2002 the retail units were occupied by Zara, Reiss, Hobbs, Heals and Rockport, with Harvey Nichols following in August 2003.
