Epping Walk Bridge over the Mancunian Way

“Hulme Arch, which was completed in 1997”

Following on from a previous post just a couple of weeks ago we just couldn’t resist using another cracking photo very kindly provided by Steve Welsh.

The view is again from the Epping Walk Bridge over the Mancunian Way looking north west towards the city centre.

The top photo from 1986 shows the view towards part of what was the Hulme Crescents.

The bottom photo is from early September 2025 and shows the considerable change that has taken over the past four decades. From left to right:

The Manchester Metropolitan University Birley Fields Campus;
Deansgate Square by RENAKER (part of the New Jackson neighbourhood) - including the under construction Contour development designed by SimpsonHaugh.
River Street Tower by Downing
Beetham Tower by Beetham;
Viadux by Salboy; and,
Axis by Property Alliance.

In the middle of the photo is the Hulme Arch, which was completed in 1997 and designed by Chris Wilkinson Architects.
