From the junction of Mosley Street & Albion Street and Great Bridgewater Street

“it feels as though the site has been hardstanding forever!”

This view uses another great photo kindly provided by Steve Welsh.

Taken in the early 1980s it is from the junction of Mosley Street/ Albion Street and Great Bridgewater Street, looking towards The Britons Protection and immediate surroundings.

We have to be honest and say that we’ve got no recollection of when the attached buildings on the right were demolished - it feels as though the site has been hardstanding forever! Does anyone remember these buildings and how they were used?

The bottom photo is from late August 2025 and gives and indication of the major change that has taken place over the last 40 years or so (in particular in the last eight!)

The Leonardo Hotels UK & Ireland on the left was built in 1999;

The Hacienda apartments are visible behind the Britons Protection (built 2002/2003);

RENAKER’s under construction 51 storey Contour, designed by SimpsonHaugh is to the right, along with the Deansgate Square development, also by SimpsonHaugh.

Finally Axis designed by Jon Matthews Architects on behalf of Property Alliance is on the right.
