Looking up Aytoun Street
“which included the retention and conversion of the existing 1960s university tower block”
The top photo was kindly provided by Chris Burnett of Chris Burnett Associates and shows the view from 2004 looking up Aytoun Street towards the former Employment Exchange building, with the Manchester Metropolitan University Aytoun Campus on the left.
The bottom photo is early 2024 and shows the significant change that has taken place in the last 20 years.
The Employment Exchange was demolished in 2014 and replaced with the 306-bed Holiday Inn for Dominvs Group.
The MMU Campus was replaced with Kampus; a joint venture between Henry Boot and Capital & Centric, which included the retention and conversion of the existing 1960s university tower block and the listed Minto & Turner and Minsull House building, providing 500 apartments, leisure, retail and car parking facilities.
On the right is the Piccadilly Place development, delivered between 2005 and 2010, which includes 355,000 sqft of workspace along with apartments and a DoubleTree by Hilton.
