Withy Grove, Shude Hill & Corporation Street
“with Lionel Ritchie performing outside the venue!”
The top photo is from 1997 and is taken from Withy Grove/ Shudehill/ Corporation Street looking towards the vacant former Daily Mirror Building (Maxwell House) and car park in front of Chetham’s. Worth noting the sign on the left also makes reference to the Gartside Street car park - site now occupied by the Civil Justice Centre.
The bottom photo is from April 2024 and shows the considerable change that has taken place with The Printworks development on the right (opened in November 2000 with Lionel Ritchie performing outside the venue!) Alongside this is the Urbis - now the National Football Museum - which opened in 2002, along with Cathedral Gardens.
