Obsidian Secures Planning Approval

EKPS is delighted to have secured consent on behalf of their longstanding client Domis Construction for the development of a new residential development in Salford.

The new building, to be known as ‘Obsidian’ (also known as ‘Trinity 2’), comprises a staggered design rising up to 26-storeys at it’s highest point, and will provide 250 dwellings with a ground floor commercial unit and accompanying extensive public realm enhancement works which involve the closure and pedestrianisation of William Street and the creation of three distinctive areas of public realm.

EKPS has worked closely with Salford City Council planning officers over the last 18 months to bring forward a scheme which directly responds to the aspirations and objectives of the adopted Chapel Wharf Framework – specifically through the delivery of high-quality public realm which will anchor the development at ground floor level and create a new gateway entrance to the Chapel Wharf area.

Salford City Council’s Planning Committee were ‘minded to approve’ the application at their meeting which took place on 20 July 2023, and full planning permission will be granted once the Heads of Terms for an accompanying S106 has been signed.
