Planning Permission in the Green Belt Secured for the Cheshire Smokehouse

EKPS are pleased to have secured consent for improved facilities; including a new food production building and an ancillary café, on behalf of the Cheshire Smokehouse. The proposals seek to reconfigure their existing site in the Cheshire Green belt, to meet modern food production standards and enable the Smokehouse to continue to produce its famous smoked goods for many more years to come.

Officers agreed that the scheme, designed by Up North Architects, provided a high quality design solution to replace the existing food production facilities; and that the very special circumstances (including safeguarding a local business that makes a contribution to local employment; the rural and visitor economy; the sustainability of the food chain; and local food security) were sufficient to outweigh the very limited harm resulting from the development (limited to Officers assessment of the building constituting 'inappropriate' development only).

EKPS were responsible for co-ordinating the application from pre-application enquiry through to the submission and subsequent determination of the application by Cheshire East Officers.
