Shambles Square complex looking towards Deansgate
“taking the recent photo…was not an easy task bearing in mind the original photo location was demolished in 1999”
This week we have decided to go for a Manchester and Salford collaboration.
The top photo is from 1997 and shows the view from part of the old Shambles Square complex looking towards Deansgate, along with the former Victoria Bridge Bus Station and in the background, Greengate - the original historic core of Salford.
The bottom photo is from August 2024 and shows the incredible change that has taken place in recent years. In the foreground is Greengate Square which opened in 2013; 101 Embankment is visible to the right - built alongside 100 Embankment - on the site of Manchester’s historic Exchange Station and to the west is CitySuites and CitySuites Two.
In the background is Greengate - the focus of incredible development activity and growth over the past decade or so, including One Greengate, Anaconda Cut, and Colliers Yard.
If you look carefully at both photos you can also see (just above the bridge) the Abito apartments - completed in 2006 by Ask Developments.
Special thanks to David Booth of Place North West in taking the recent photo, which was not an easy task bearing in mind the original photo location was demolished in 1999!
