The view north from the Epping Walk Bridge across the Princess Parkway revisited
“shows a very different Manchester with the infamous Hulme Crescents on the left.”
This view we wanted to revisit a location that was featured a few months ago: the view north from the Epping Walk Bridge across the Princess Parkway (all prompted by Benjamin Hall - LOFT®’s question on the last post!)
The top photo this time is from 1989 and was taken by local photographer Richard Davis who very kindly gave me authorisation to use the photo as part of this Flashback post. It is taken from his incredible book, Hulme, and shows a very different Manchester with the infamous Hulme Crescents on the left.
Richard’s fantastic book can be found here:

The bottom photo is from the same location in September 2024 and shows the unreal change over the past 35 years. From the left to the right the buildings in the photo are:
The Manchester Metropolitan University Birley Fields Campus; Deansgate Square by RENAKER; River Street Tower by Downing; Beetham Tower by Beetham; Viadux by Salboy; Axis by Property Alliance; First Street South by Downing; and, The Manchester Metropolitan University’s Archway Hall student accommodation.
