Full Planning Permission was secured for the creation of a new, meaningful, public park on behalf of Manchester City Council on the former Central Retail Park at MCC’s Planning and Highways Committee on 20th February 2025.

Designed by Planit Landscape Architects, the park achieves the highest standards of sustainable design creating a new city park with its own distinct appeal that will add to - and form part of - the existing network of open space and public squares. The Park has been designed to respond to the needs of the multigenerational resident and business community of the area, focusing on the requirements for individuals with mobility challenges, disabilities, the elderly and children.

The Park will create a direct linkage to Cotton Field Park and the New Islington Marina and will be easily accessed from the Rochdale Canal path, and will help facilitate the ongoing regeneration of Ancoats and New Islington.
