Planning Approval for new Dog Sanctuary

EKPS has again secured planning permission on behalf of local charity Dogs 4 Rescue, this time for their new 8 hectare dog and animal sanctuary in Accrington.

Dogs4Rescue fosters and provides sanctuary to dogs in need with the aim of helping as many dogs as possible off the streets, or out of local pounds, and matching them up with people and families in the local area. The charity also provides a home to dogs who cannot be re-homed - known as the ‘Sanctuary dogs’. Critically, the rescue is pioneering in its free-running, kennel free approach.

Following the success of their existing site in Salford, Dogs4Rescue are bringing forward a second site at Clough Bottom Farm, which will provide a home to the Sanctuary dogs only, freeing up capacity at the Salford site for dogs which can be rehomed.

The Site has been identified as an ideal location for the Sanctuary as it will provide a calm countryside location with adequate space to have multiple ‘free-running’ areas for the ‘sub-packs’ of dogs.

The consent permits the change of use of the site, as well as the first phase of development including new buildings for accommodating the Sanctuary dogs, rescue staff and storage.

The proposals have been designed to be respectful of the countryside location and will bring the site, which is currently in a very run-down state, back into a meaningful use.

EKPS were responsible for co-ordinating and submitting the application submission and are continuing to provide planning advice as the project progresses.
